Instagram Weekends: Finding Midnight

When I was little there was one toy that I never got,
that I always wanted.

Don't get me wrong, there were lots of toys I never got,
but most of them I forgot shortly after saying I wanted them...
not this one though.
This one was:

Barbie's horse, Midnight.

I had Dallas (still do) and I loved her...
but I always longed for Midnight too...
but my parents just didn't have that kind of money back then.
So I never got Barbie's beautiful stallion.

Then... lo and behold,
I was in a musty old antique shop,
and who do I see standing alone on a shelf
in the toy section?

MIDNIGHT!!

He cost me $18,
which, I have to say,
to fullfill a childhood longing that I never forgot,
even into adulthood...
well, I thought it was a steal.

I wish they still made Barbie horses
that looked like Dallas and Midnight.
I much prefer them to the weird,
cartoony horses they make now.

  1. Congratulations! I'd say that's a great price to pay for something you've been wanting so long. :)

    1. No doubt! He's not in mint condition, but he is still in quite lovely condition... and I looked him up on ebay, and he goes for $90, so I think I got lucky.

    1. I know! This is a toy I've been looking for for years! I never really expected to find him!!! So when I saw him standing there on the top shelf all alone... I was flabbergast... and then when he was affordable!!! I squealed. My Mom was with me, she just rolled her eyes. LOL.

  3. Congrats! Midnight is beautiful. This is my first time seeing Midnight. I can imagine what a great feeling that was to see him in the store and have him be so affordable.

    1. He's the same mold as Dallas, just black. I have no info on his release numbers or dates compared to Dallas, but just based on what I remember as a kid, I'd say he wasn't as released as she was. I have Dallas too, and I absolutely love the realistic style of these two. They're more like Breyers horses... they're beautiful! There were ponies that went with them too, that I'd love to have... but I've yet to find those.

  4. I know exactly how you feel about nostalgic toys :). I still have quite a few that I had while I was a kid, but got lost or misplaced along the way that I need to pick up again.

  5. I remember having a horse that was black, and I did find it, but we cant seem to find what horse it even is. Its not a barbie horse, but has realistic shaping and all that.

Now the girls can be pretty princesses...or cowgirls!
